the dental school students recently received a generous donation of about $200/person from what they originally told us was an “anonymous benefactor.” however, we later found out from the dean that it reflects our “first share of the licensing fees received from King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for providing their faculty the rights to our predoctoral curriculum.”

admittedly I stole the song idea from somebody, but this is just too goddamn appropriate/hilarious

These are my new loupes from Orascoptic! They have a tortoise shell frame and a magnification of 2.5x so that I can see really fine, detailed work. Eventually they’ll ship me a little light that sits on top which will help to pierce the darkness of the oral cavity!
They should make working in operative a hell of a lot easier and the box says my name on it which is pretty awesome. Also, I look super dental when I wear them.

The finished product! Look how shiny that restoration is after I polished the hell out of it.

Because I didn’t post my finished restoration today as promised, here is a sculpture of all of the bones in my bone box shoved together.
Included: skull, sphenoid bone, maxillary bone, clavicle, sternum, atlas and axis, temporal bone, and 3 vertebrae.

This is what it looks like when I prep a fake tooth for an amalgam filling. The preparation is for a Class II which means that the decay in the tooth extends onto the surface of the tooth that is proximal to the adjacent tooth (the interproximal surface). Therefore, a matrix band is placed around the tooth and its prep in order to keep the eventual filling contained. On Friday I will post the final product! How interesting is dental school!?
